Chapter 10 – Clone Saga

Author's note: Longest chapter so far! I know Ben Reilly's Scarlet Spider costume is more popular but I like his Spider-Man costume more, plus it's my story so I get to choose his costume. Now with that out of the way, let's begin!

His eyes shot open to be greeted by a young blonde woman stumbling back in surprise. He then scanned where he was to see a vast amount of equipment. He had no idea what all of this was for but he knew it had something to do with the silver robot with a red glowing mouth and eyes staring intently at him.

The robot then pressed a button somewhere off to the left (remember this is from the clones POV) and the restraints beneath his chest eased off him revealing a pair of jeans that the machine must have been put on him at some point during the procedure (let's face it, a clone doesn't want to wake up to have his first seconds of existence in the nude).

The clone tried to walk out of whatever the machine he was in was, but almost immediately fell flat on his face.

"Physical strength at 39%, full potential output will be achieved in approximately 6 minutes." The robot simply stood there watching the blonde woman help the clone to his feet. He noticed that she was blushing most likely because he wasn't wearing a shirt giving her the opportunity to look at his muscles.

The clone tried to find his voice "W-Where...where am I?"

"Current location: Hidden cloning lab outside of Villainville. Identity: Ultron."

"My name is Warbird, I'm a clone too."

The clone stood up, starting to control his balance "Who am I a clone of?"

"DNA structure is equal to that of Spider-Man. You possess all of his powers and his IQ; his memories should be yours as well at any moment."

As soon as Ultron finished speaking the clone grasped his head as a stinging sensation filled his head "Ow ow AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"Spider-Man's memories flooded the clones mind including his parents leaving him, Uncle Ben's death, as well as the loss of Gwen Stacy and meeting the Super Hero Squad. All these and the rest entered his head at blinding speeds (quite literally).

Everything went black...

A few minutes later

Warbird went into the spare room to see if the clone was alright since he fainted. She knocked to check if he was awake. "Come in."

The clone was up and about performing some sit-ups on the ceiling much to Warbird's surprise "Are you sure you should be doing that seeing how you fainted earlier?"

He stopped his upside down exercise to look down (or up from his point-of-view) at her "Just trying to recover, by getting used to my powers. I've gotten used to the memories and I look forward to having my own as time goes on."

Warbird's brow raised in anticipation "Do you know Spider-Man's real name?" the clone flipped off the ceiling to face her properly.

"Well...you see I can see those memories from images but I can't hear what people are saying in them so I have no clue who's who."

Darn it, she had experienced the same thing, what's the point in having the memories of the ones they were cloned of if they can't even know who they are or who they know?

"Well I just wanted to give you this" Warbird handed a costume to the clone, it resembled Spider-Man's except the spider logo was spread all over his torso and around his back and there was more blue in the legs and arms. "It's a bit different so we'll be able to tell you and Spider-Man apart."

He then looked back up at her "Thanks, do you mind if I get changed?" He noticed she was staring; he only had a vest so she was still looking at his arms. She recollected herself and shook the embarrassment from her head.

"Oh uh sorry, yeah I'll give you time to get changed, Ultron wants to check on you so come on out when you're done." She then stepped out to give him privacy while he slipped on the costume.

The clone soon stepped out now fully dressed in the costume and headed into the main part of the lab where Warbird and the robot she confirmed as Ultron were waiting. Ultron turned to him and scanned him "full strength up to 96%. I assume you are feeling better from fainting earlier."

The clone nodded "So…since I don't know who I'm modelled after, what do I call myself?"

"The name given to you shall be...Scarlet Spider."

"Scarlet Spider? Hmmm sounds modern and catchy, I like it!" Nice to know he had the real Spider-Man's charm and energy.

"Unfortunately, we do not possess the means of creating web shooters. Luckily though, as a clone you should possess the knowledge on how to create such devices." He then turned to Warbird "Warbird, assist Scarlet Spider with anything he wants to know. I trust you to make him feel welcome."

After Ultron had left the two just stood not knowing how to start the conversation "So…how's it going?"

"Not to bad." Sadly neither of them knew what to say next."Well I'm gonna fly around for a bit let me know if you need anything."

As Warbird took to the sky Scarlet Spider looked at his wrists "I'm sure Ultron won't mind if I borrow some things to make some web-shooters."

"Alright that should be the last of the glass stuck in your arm."

The SHIELD medic stepped back before applying a bandage around Spider-Man's upper arm, the bleeding was slowing down and with all the shards of glass removed the pain was reduced to a mere sting.

"You'll have to leave this on for at least a week and a half. So I wouldn't swing too much if I were you."

Spider-Man slumped against the berth "It's alright; I'll find a way around it."
Ms. Marvel helped him up "Here let's give you a chance to stretch your legs." The medic bid them both farewells as he returned to his work, which gave the web-head and SHIELD leader some more time to themselves as they walked towards the living room.

"Sorry the day didn't go as planned M&M, luck has never really been that kind to me."

"Look don't apologise you did nothing wrong."

"I made chose a name that 78% of the population can't spell probably."

"...okay there's that but still! You saved those people and that's what matters."
He sat down to rest his arm as a thought from earlier returned "Hey M&M you never answered my question about you and Iron Man."
Her expression dropped at that point "Oh..."

"I understand if you still want to be friends I'm perfectly fine if you're into him."

Ms. Marvel had to speak up about this "Spidey, I can assure you there is nothing going on between me and Tony, he's a friend and nothing more. Besides he can be just as unbearable as the rest of his squad."

"Wait so I'm the one who make bad jokes yet I'm more bearable than Iron Man? Did seeing the clone make you lose your sanity?"

"No, I just know what a gentleman is like." Ms. Marvel clamped her mouth shut as she realised what she just said aloud.

Spider-Man looked at her in surprise he wasn't expecting that at all! Her face could of been mistaken for a tomato she was blushing so much!

"Uh well...what I mean is...well....if you want to get lunch together again...I guess..."
The moment was interrupted when Reptil entered the room and noticed them "Hey guys I just got the new Gii W! Want to try it out?"

As much fun as that sounded Ms. Marvel didn't want Reptil to get the wrong idea about her and Spidey being a couple "I'd love to but er...I have to check up on the SHIELD agents, see ya." She then hurried out the room trying to hide her blush.

"Okay how 'bout you Spidey?"

"Uh actually I have to go rest my arm, so I'll turn in for the evening."

Reptil looked at the clock in the room "But it's only 8:42pm."

"You would feel sleepy too if your arm was stinging....I'm leaving now see ya." Spider-Man then left the room before Reptil could speak.

Reptil just stared around in confusion "I interrupted something important didn't I?

Scarlet Spider snapped the last component in place before pressing the trigger to release a cannonball sized web ball smashing the wood he set up in half, showing its surprising toughness.

Ultron stepped outside the lab and moved towards him "Scarlet Spider, how are you fairing so far?"

"I'm getting used to all it, in fact using what I've learnt from my others memories I have modified his web shooter design to fire impact webbing the size of cannonballs with a special chemical formula for extra toughness and splash damage." He moved his hand over to the web shooter in a proud mood, feeling satisfied with his work.

"Impressive" Ultron scanned over the wood that split in half with one of the parts hanging from the webbing. The robot turned back to Scarlet Spider "I apologise that our current residence is lacking in quality."

Scarlet turned to Villainville "It's alright; I'm just disturbed that the heroes get to live in a civilised place while we have live in essentially a pit. Why should they treat us like rubbish!?"

Scarlet's fist clenched in frustration as Ultron noticed. He had successfully convinced the Spider-Man clone just as easily as the Ms. Marvel clone. Now that Warbird and Scarlet Spider believe that the heroes are a group of people who have demonised those in Villainville this will be enough to convince the two to help the villains in what they want.

"I understand the anger at how the city banished us from trying to help them, but only through patience and strategy will we reclaim what is ours." A beeping noise came from inside the lab "Excuse me Scarlet, I'll be back soon."

"One more question...why are we called villains?"

"Another tactic devised by the people of the city, that name is meant to discriminate us. Instead we accept it as a trademark because if trying to make the world a better place is a crime then we are guilty as charged. Now please, I have a call waiting."

Scarlet Spider watched Ultron retreat into the lab, once inside he pressed a button on a small hologram device causing Dr. Doom's head appeared in a holographic green light facing down on Ultron. "Ultron, has the Spider-Man clone been created yet?"

"Yes Lord Doom, identity is now Scarlet Spider, he seems confident enough to go through with the plan."

"Good. Do you know who he looks like?"

"I'm afraid, like Warbird, I don't know Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man's real names so I'm unable to find out who they really are."

"Well at least we have the clone, meet me in my throne room in a few minutes to discuss our plan." The hologram deactivated and Ultron returned outside towards Scarlet Spider who was in conversation about something. But they both turned around quickly when they saw him approaching.

"Dr. Doom wishes to initiate the 'plan' soon. You two understand what you must do?"

"Yes" they both answered in unison. Soon the 'plan' would be set in motion and they would not be stopped...
